Linguistics Book Drive for IKIP Ujung Pandang

The economic crisis in Asia has made it increasingly difficult for linguistics programs in third-world Asian countries to acquire books. In conjunction with our sponsorship of the Symposia on Malay / Indonesian Linguistics, the Department of Linguistics and the School of Education at the University of Delaware held a book drive for the Linguistics Program of Institut Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (IKIP), Ujung Pandang, Sulawesi, Indonesia. IKIP Ujung Pandang was the local host for the Second Symposium on Malay / Indonesian Linguistics, and IKIP faculty and students demonstrated the depth of their interest in linguistics by their whole-hearted participation in the symposium. We wished to show them that their efforts are valued by linguists in the United States.

IKIP asked linguists abroad to assist them in securing donations of linguistics books. Both elementary linguistics textbooks and more advanced books are needed. A shipment of books was sent to IKIP by the University of Delaware in June, 1999.

IKIP still needs your help. Please send any books that you can spare directly to IKIP:
