Thank you for your interest in graduate study in linguistics at the University of Delaware. The Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science is the home for the Ph.D. program in Linguistics. The following pages provide an introduction to the department, the university, and to the Newark, Delaware area.

Our department has recently added exciting new specializations in psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics, and is also one of the few linguistics departments in the U.S. that combine a generative orientation to linguistics with fieldwork and the study of endangered languages.

Please note that while our official application deadline is February 1st, we strongly encourage all applications to be submitted to the UD Office of Graduate Studies as early as possible, and no later than by mid December.  The Department admissions committee will review all applicants in early February and make decisions for admission and funding in February.

Please use the links below to get more information about the Department, the Ph.D. and M.A. programs, the application process, and the University of Delaware.  To obtain further information about the Department or the application process, please email our Director of Graduate Studies, Prof. Gabriella Hermon, gaby-at-udel-dot-edu.
