PhD student to present at the LSA 2008 Summer Meeting

PhD student Solveig Bosse will be presenting her poster entitled "A Different View on German Split DPs" at the Linguistic Society of America Summer Meeting for Graduate and Undergraduate Students which is going to be held at the Ohio State University, July 10-13, 2008.

PhD student passed dissertation defense

PhD student Ozge Ozturk has successfully defended her dissertation entitled "Acquisition of Evidentiality and Source Monitoring" on Monday, April 7 at  Memorial Hall, and thus completing all the requirements of the PhD in Linguistics program. She will be graduating this May.

Professors, PhD Students to present at PLC 32

Professor Satoshi Tomioka is going to talk as a guest speaker on "Intervention Effects in Focus" in the upcoming 32nd Penn Linguistics Colloquium which is going to be held at the University of Pennsylvania, February 22-24. In the same conference, Professor Benjamin Bruening and PhD student Sachie Kotani will give presentations on topics in syntax, Professor Anna Papafragou and PhD student Ozge Ozturk will talk about evidentiality and source monitoring, and PhD student Karthik Durvasula will present his paper on the existence of obstruent nasals.

Department Chair to give plenary talks and publish book

Department Chair Professor Frederick Adams will be presenting "Belief Constraints on Intending" at University of Sussex, United Kingdom, October 12 and  "Embodied Cognition: what do the data prove?" at the Interdisciplinary Conference on Cognition: Embodied, Embedded, Enactive, Extended at University of Central Florida, Orlando, October 22-24.

His book, co-authored with Ken Aizawa, entitled The Bounds of Cognition (Blackwell Press) will be out November 1.
