Colin's Running Page

Well, there's not much here for now, but with time, it should improve. For many years, one of my favorite leisure activities has been running. This is largely due to the fact that I am far too uncoordinated to usefully participate in any other sport. I have competed seriously at distances from 800m (half-mile) up to the marathon (26.2 miles). In the past few years, my activity has been restricted to participation in a variety of road races.

In recent years, my main running accomplishment was qualifying for and then running in the 1996 Boston Marathon (the 100th anniversary of that marathon). The picture on the left below shows me at mile 17 in the 1995 Bay State Marathon in Lowell, MA, which I completed in 3:07:42, just fast enough to qualify for the Boston Marathon. The picture on the right shows me rounding the final corner of the 1996 Boston Marathon (25.9 miles completed, 0.3 miles to go). I completed that race in 3hrs thirty-something. I had had a rather rough day, but managed to muster a reasonably fast last mile, rejuvenated after being passed by a guy from Wisconsin wearing an enormous styrofoam cheese on his head. Enough was enough. My finishing position was eleven thousand two hundred and something, out of around 37,000 finishers ... the world's largest ever marathon.
