These questions ask for information about yourself and about your experience with topics and technology related to this course -- it will be used to make it easier for you to communicate with other students in the course, and to improve the effectiveness of the lab exercises. The information will also be useful in forming the groups for group projects. Please email your answers to colin@udel.edu by the end of the first week of classes.

  1. Name
  2. email address (if you do not have an email account, you should get one very soon)
  3. phone number (only include this if you do not object to including this number on a list for other class members - this will NOT be posted on the web!)
  4. What languages do you know/speak (natively or otherwise)?
  5. Major (or equivalent for Grads)
  6. What background do you have in linguistics or experimental psychology?
  7. What is your reason for taking this course? Of the topics listed in the syllabus, are there any that you are particularly interested in? [this question is relevant to the group projects]

Now some questions about your experience with computers etc.

  1. What computer operating system do you use most (e.g. Win95/98, Macintosh, Unix)?
  2. Do you have experience with other platforms, apart from the one you use most?
  3. Do you generally work on a computer at home or at the University - if you work from home, do you have an internet connection from there (that would allow you to access the web and download files for the course)?
  4. How experienced are you with using computers? (e.g., do you just use a word-processor and email, or are you an experienced programmer/hacker, or any point in between) Do you have experience using spreadsheet applications (e.g. MS Excel), web-page design applications, or any programming languages (e.g. Visual Basic, Java, C++, Lisp)?
